Just got a Twitter update from former Villanova player John Celestand about his blog. Celestand is currently working for ESPN Regional/ESPNU as a color analyst covering Big East games, but he also operates his own blog called CELEVISION. john celestand action

Celestand just wrote an article for SportsFanLive entitled Laughing on the Outside, Crying on the Inside. He discusses his thoughts on the Michael Beasley situation, Plaxico Burress’ indictment, and Michael Vick’s return to football. Being a blogger myself, I naturally have been browsing Celestand’s blog for the last hour or so and have really enjoyed it. It’s great seeing another Villanovan doing well in the sports industry, as I hope to do one day.

So if you didn’t know what Celestand is up to, you do now. Make sure to check out CELEVISION, and you can follow John on Twitter here. Keep up the great work John!

We’ve had an account on Twitter since last year’s NCAA Tournament started up, but I’ve never really gotten immersed into all of it’s functionality. Lately though, I’ve been getting a few more emails telling me that more people are following me on Twitter (up to 19 now), so I’ve been playing with it for the past few days trying to figure it out.twitter picture

It occurred to me last week that this phenomenon is probably here to stay, at least for longer than I anticipated. In light of that I’m going to be using it to link stories from the blog, share opinions, break news, and give commentary on the games when the season gets begins.

So, if you are on Twitter, you can follow me, message me, or do whatever you like and I will do my best to be more interactive and responsive, as I just realized some people had tried to do that and I had no idea that they had made an attempt to contact me. As much as I’ve resisted it, I can see the upside in it for connecting with other Villanova fans and sports minds alike since I’m no longer on Facebook.

You’ll notice the Twitter icon in the upper right hand corner of the blog, just above the search bar. If you click on that, it will take you to my Twitter page and you can either start an account, or follow me if you already have one.

Dwayne's Debut (Or Not)

Before we talk about Dwayne Anderson, I wanted to wrap-up talking about Dante Cunningham’s first game in the NBA Summer League.  Obviously, Dante had a very good game in terms of statistics, but the most important thing is what the Portland Trailblazers coaching staff thinks.  The Portland Trailblazers game recap relayed some important quotes about their game last night.   Head coach of the Trailblazers summer team, Joe Prunty, discussed Dante’s play:

He looked very comfortable.  I thought he did a really nice job setting screens, slipping screens, separating after he set screens.  I thought he did a really nice job of going after boards.  He got a few of what I like to refer to as ‘dirty rebounds,’ where they’re out of your area, you hustle after them.  They’re not the ones that sort of fall into your lap.  So I really appreciated the effort he gave.

Additionally, the Portland Trailblazers official blog, called Center Court, written by Casey Holdahl, provided some discussion about the game and postgame audio from the players, including Cunningham

One more thing before we get to Dwyane.  Just a quick update on former Villanova coach Patrick Chambers.  It seems like he is doing well at Boston University.  Little did I know that he named former Villanova walk-on, Ross Condon, as one of his assistant coaches awhile back.  I found this out in his blog, seeing a picture from one of his older posts

Chambers also has a Twitter account, which he regularly updates, keeping fans in the loop regarding the BU basketball team.

Finally, on to Dwayne Anderson.  Undoubtedly, many wondered how Anderson would perform in live NBA game action, as he was supposed to take the court tonight for the Washington Wizards summer team.  After checking the box score, Dwayne’s name was not to be found, which left some questions to be answered.   I checked around a little bit, and it looks like Dwayne was cut from the Washington Wizards yesterday, along with a slew of other players.  I did not see any reasoning behind the decision, but my guess is only a certain number of players can attend the Summer League, meaning the Wizards had to cut down their roster, and unfortunately, Dwayne was one of many to lose a spot.
