Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog just twittered that 2010 PG Cory Joseph will be making two visits this weekend. The first will be on Saturday to Villanova before making the trip up to UConn on Sunday.cory joseph portrait

Joseph, who plays for Findlay Prep in Nevada, is ranked the 7th best player in 2010 by Rivals, and is currently on the East Coast for the Boost Mobile event being held in New York City.

…Great to see he is stopping by for an unofficial while he’s out East…we’ve mentioned before that 2010 recruiting is likely closed up save any defections, but of course the door has to be left open in case there are any early NBA-entrants (i.e. Corey Fisher)…

…That would leave a hole in the backcourt, which is an area that somebody like Kyrie Irving or Cory Joseph could fill…so if Joseph is squeezing in a visit, his interest in ‘Nova has to be real…

Recruiting: 'Nova trying to stay in it with Irving

A while back we took 2010 guard Kyrie Irving off the recruiting page because it didn’t look like he and Villanova matched up. While that still be the case, ZagsBlog’s latest update on Irving suggests that Villanova may still be in the picture, even if they are barely in it.kyrie irving portrait

“Jay Wright is trying to keep them in the game,” Boyle said. “If Kyrie’s willing to wait, they might have a chance. If Corey Fisher has a good year and is the No. 20 or 30 pick in the NBA Draft” that might open things up at Villanova.”

It’s an interesting scenario to say the least. Irving comes from a program that has been a mini-pipeline for us in recent years, but he’s really looking for an opportunity where he can play right away. It’s no secret that Villanova has a loaded backcourt, and so it makes sense that Villanova has faded with Irving.

You never know though, and Fisher certainly is talented enough to have a breakout year and put himself in contention for a 1st round selection.

Kyrie Irving has cut his list of potential colleges down, and the list does not include Villanova. ZagsBlog reports that Irving, rated the #4 PG in the Class of 2010, has left off notables such as UConn and Rutgers in addition to the Wildcats.

…If you follow recruiting as much as I do, this isn’t a total shocker…when Dominic Cheek committed to Villanova it seriously hurt our chances to land Irving…oh well…should be some news tomorrow to lift your spirits…

Irving is on 'Nova's radar.

ESPN2 will be broadcasting the Old Spice High School Showcase tonight at 7 p.m. The game features Lincoln High School of Brooklyn, NY and St. Patrick’s of Elizabeth, NJ.

Lincoln features the man-child Lance Stephenson (whose recruitment has been a complete circus if you don’t know about him) while St. Patrick’s features North Carolina-bound Dexter Strickland as well as the super-talented duo of sophomore Michael Gilchrist and junior Kyrie Irving, both who are on Villanova’s radar (especially Irving).

A couple weeks ago I had a story about Irving, indicating his interest in Villanova. St. Pat’s Coach Kevin Boyle has said that Irving has a chance to go down as the greatest guard ever in New Jersey. So, yeah, he’s pretty good. So if you are trying to kill some time before the Villanova game tonight, switch it over to the deuce and have a look.

2010 PG prospect Kyrie Irving of powerhouse St. Patrick’s High School is definitely a name to keep an eye on. The talented junior is part of a back-court that currently features North Carolina-bound Dexter Strickland and super sophomore Michael Gilchirst.kyrie-irving-portrait

Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog provides a recruiting update (bottom of page) via Coach Kevin Boyle that bodes well for Villanova. Iriving currently has a Top 3 of Rutgers, Seton Hall and Villanova.

“Kyrie’s got a wide range of interest,” he said. “I think there is the
chance that Seton Hall or Rutgers could get him to stay in town. Kyrie
has also shown interest in Villanova. There’s a good chance he could
stay in the East. He’s just really, really good.

It’s no secret that Villanova needs to recruit some PG’s in the future. People love to talk about the frontcourt depth issues but getting players who can handle the rock is equally important. Irving, who stands 6′2″, is definitely at the top of Villanova’s list.

…Speaking of recruiting, I changed around the format of the Recruiting Page so there are some pictures of our future Wildcats…still working on the format of this site so more changes will be coming soon…
