4 years ago I never thought I’d see the day when we were double-digit favorites over the Connecitcut Huskies. Times sure have changed (although this is more of an aberration than anything else, they’re still a great program in a down year).

  • On Game Day, I will post the official line we will be using for the game.
  • In that thread, post your pick against-the-spread for the game that night.
  • Make sure you use the same username for every pick (I know some of you are registered, if you aren’t this is a good reason to do so to make it easier). Also, make sure you provide your email so that I can contact the winner at the end of the year.
  • Anonymous entries will not count.
  • Entries posted after the game starts will not count.
  • If you do not provide a pick for the game, it will be marked as a loss in the standings.
  • If you are away and can’t make a pick in the thread, you can email me your pick. Email me at clane2787@gmail.com and I will try to email you back ASAP with the line (again, it must be emailed before the start of the game).
  • The winner at the end of the year will win a prize (TBD) and I promise it will be something good. I’m not going to be lame like that. I’m searching eBay for cool Villanova stuff as we speak.
  • In the event of a tie, the poster with the best BIG EAST record (regular season) wins. If still tied, the best Big 5 record wins. If still tied, the best OOC record wins. If still tied, we may have to do multiple prizes.

The line for tonight is Villanova -10. Go ahead and guess.

Let’s just forget about that game on Saturday. Good value here tonight if you are actually a betting man. I have a feeling we’ll have a near-unanimous crowd.

Villanova vs. Georgetown Brief Postgame Notes

UPDATED:

-Adventures of getting to the game

-Postgame Quotes

-Georgetown back on the national title scene

ORIGINAL:

Game just ended: 2:30 pm eastern time.  Georgetown Hoyas defeat Villanova Wildcats 103-90.  Some notes on the game are below.

-The game started out going back and forth with each team trading buckets for much of the first 8 minutes or so.  Then, things really started to change, as Villanova began turning the ball over and coming up empty on the offensive possessions they did have.  Couple that with Jason Clark and Austin Freeman basically not missing threes, it all added up to a recipe for disaster.

-Although the Hoyas shot lights out in the first half, Villanova wasn’t exactly stifling on the defensive end.  I thought Jay Wright stuck with the press too long.  It takes time off the shot clock for the opponent, but if they can consistently break it, matching up becomes a problem because everyone is scrambling to find their man.  Once Georgetown broke the press, the Cats did not get to their man in time, leaving Clark and Freeman wide open for threes.

-Halftime score: Georgetown 50 Villanova 31

-Obviously, being down 19 at the half is not an insurmountable lead for this Villanova squad, because they can score in bunches, so it seemed like a matter of time before the Cats made a run.

-The visitors cut the deficit to about 12 on multiple occasions, but each time, Georgetown responded with some clutch buckets.

-All in all, Villanova didn’t play good defense, but honestly, no one was beating Georgetown today.  They were pretty much unconscious all game, mostly from beyond the arc.  It wasn’t just one guy either, like the Seton Hall game with Jeremy Hazell, rather the whole G’town team was locked in.

-I’ll end by mentioning the horrendous job by the refs, but this was not the difference in the game.  No excuses.  Georgetown was the better team today and deserved to win.

Nobody wants to lose, especially to archrival Georgetown, but this is not the end of the world.  Villanova was due for a clunker, and Georgetown is no slouch.  Like I texted my dad at one point during the game, “Better now than March.”

Seeing how its an hour and fifteen minutes until tip-off, I’m sure the regulars have figured out that there will be no Pick’em today.

We’ll just go ahead and proclaim “No Pick’em Saturdays” seeing as its basically turned into a routine at this point.

Everyone gets marked down for a win and IBBW has (potentially) settled on a very nice prize that we’ll announce in the coming days.

Enjoy your Saturday and Let’s go Cats!

Just so you all know, Mark texted me in a panic last night about the spread. He thought it was Tuesday already. Kid is on his way to a rough week I’d say.

#1 Must Wait

On a rare Saturday where Villanova didn’t play, the Wildcats needed help from another group of Wildcats to make history.  With Kentucky losing to South Carolina on Tuesday night, Villanova had a chance to become #1 in the nation for the first time in school history.  The Kansas Jayhawks downed the Kansas State Wildcats in a nailbiter though, so in all likelihood, Kansas will be #1 and Villanova #2 when the new polls come out on Monday.

Not really a big deal if you ask me.  It would be cool to hold the top spot, but being #1 in the very last poll is all that matters.

Game is too early, the IBBW crew is attending, and I can’t find a line yet. Hence, it’s too late. Just a quick note cause I’d gotten a few emails about it.

Very surprised at the line. That’s all I’ll say. And yeah, standings are coming. If you’ve got a problem with how long it’s taking, please tell my boss and my clients that IBBW is more important than my real job.
