They were open in part because the weakside rotation was slow on passes over the top. It has been a problem all year. I'm kind of old school - when a player is hot I think you need to fould him hard (not dirty) and knock him off his spots. This team doesn't do that.

I still respectfully disagree. Both Freeman and Clark shoot well over 40% from 3 point range. I still say they were this hot because they were that open. I agree about Cheek/Stokes.

The 3 point defense continues to be on the wrong side of suck. I would like to see more of Cheek and less of Stokes. He gives more effort and is better on top of the press.

The officials were horrible (not the reason for the loss). The Big East is great, but the officials... have no idea what an offensive foul is. Too often an offensive foul is called when there should be a no call. Way too many "anticipation" calls.

I'll be writing something up on this game, but for right now I'll just say -- that was a perfect storm type scenario.

We're better than we played, the refs were bad (weren't the difference), and as my buddy Andrew at Casual Hoya said, it was Cocaine Night at The Verizon Center. Nobody in the country beats them the way they shot the ball today.

Instant poll - So, given the choice, who would you rather have as a Mother-in-Law: Doris Burke or Nancy Pelosi??? You have to pick one.

I agree with you on most points J92. I harped on the idea that Villanova's defense was terrible, as they gave the Hoyas too many open looks. Jay felt that the way to get back into the game was to continue to press and try to force turnovers, but the Hoyas were breaking it for the most part. Thus, Villanova had to scramble to find their men, but Clark and Freeman were just on tonight. True, the Nova defense was bad, but when do you ever see Georgetown put up 50 points in a half and 100+ in a game, regardless of porous defense. I can't remember the last time the Hoyas did this, so I think the Hoyas would have beaten 98% of the teams in the country today. Unfortunately, it happens and it happened against a team that most Villanovans despise.

Guys - let's get real here, this was not a good game for Nova. The reason the Hoyas were red hot is because they were OPEN 3's. Good shooters hit open 3's. When Stokes and King get open looks of good sets they nail them. They only miss when they start launching 28 footers or have pressure on them.

We have a lot of talent so we overcome our deficits against weaker team but when we play a more talented team like Georgetown we are exploited by our weak defense. Sorry to say our defense is weak. I think Jay Wright's philosophy has always been pressure the ball and yeah you may give up some open looks but in the end you gain more than you lose. For the most part it has worked, but they have to find a way to adjust. Hey, we're still a great team, but I'm just saying you can't say "no one would have beat Georgetown tonight". They were hot because we gave them the open looks - a better defensive effort could have beaten them.

Yeah, the moral of the story here is that Villanova is going to get theirs, and to beat us, you're going to have to score 100 and shoot the lights out. Not great, but at least a postive way to look at it
