A Loss on the Horizon?

Before we talk about the road ahead, let’s put a bow on the Seton Hall game.  Unfortunately, I did not get to see the game last night, as I had a basketball game of my own, although I did listen to the second half on the radio.  Since I missed the Cats in action, I resorted to a bevy of internet sites to get me caught up on Nova hoops.  Below are some of the things I delved into.

-Villanova vs. Seton Hall AP Recap

-Villanova vs. Seton Hall Box Score

-Villanova vs. Seton Hall Postgame Quotes

-Reynolds Scores 2,000th Point in Win

-Jay Wright and Adam Zagoria’s Bet

-CSN Philly Quick Villanova Basketball Clips  (this link takes you to the CSN Philly video page…click on the SPORTSNITE tab and there is 1 clip from January 31st discussing a possible #1 ranking and 1 clip from February 2nd relaying Scottie reaching 2,000 points)

9 Big East regular season games down, 9 to go.  A perfect start in conference has everyone salivating about what this team could accomplish, but as we all know by now, the second half of the schedule is much tougher than the first.  I never like to look too far ahead, much like the Cats always seem to focus on the “next game,” so I’ll only take a quick glance at a very important game in a few weeks.  The showdown with Syracuse should be a doozy, and the hype is already starting, as the Carrier Dome is sold out and an attendance record will be broken in the process.  But…

Again, let’s not get ahead of ourselves, because over a 2 and a half day span this weekend into next week, Villanova will play road games against #7 Georgetown and #6 West Virginia.  As I ask in the title, is a loss on the horizon?  In my opinion (and I think I may take some heat about this from you Cat fans), I would be very content to come out of these next 2 games at 1-1.  Could the Cats win both?  Sure.  Could they lose both?  Easily.  In the end, coming out of this 2 game stretch with a win and a loss would be solid.  I want to hear what you think, though; would you be ok with 1-1 come Tuesday morning or is 2-0 the only option?

1-1 is what I’m hoping for. I really do think we lose 1 of these games if not both.

And if we do lose both, no reason to panic. We may the only team in the country which has to play 2 Top 10 opponents ON THE ROAD in the span of 3 days.

Don’t know how happy I am about the Hoyas losing tonight to USF. Maybe they aren’t the true 7th best team in the country, but this bad loss will most likely mean they play that much harder on Saturday.

Brian i know what u mean but trust me they will be gunning for us no matter what. So we have to go down their and kick ass…THis is our time.

It’ll give them extra motivation and piss them off more. Makes the game harder for us IMO, but just go down there and win.

I’m more worried about Monday night, coming off what will be a tough game on Saturday with virtually no rest and into a hostile, hostile environment where we historically don’t play well.

1-1 would be awesome. And if i had to pick one to win i’d pick the WVU game.

And the GTown loss doesnt affect us one way or the other. Did we not think we were getting GTown’s best this weekend? If anything it makes me a little more nervous about the USF game down the line, which no longer looks like an automatic W.

USF team is almost mirror image of Seton Hall. Stop 1 guy and you should be ok. Jeremy Hazell for Seton Hall and Dominique Jones for USF.

These last nine are going to be tough. I’ll be happy with 5-4, pleased with 6-3, and elated at 7-2 or better. In the next two, 2-0 is the goal, 1-1 is acceptable, and 0-2 isn’t the end of the world unless each loss is a blow out.

How do you write this blog and not bother to watch the game? I understand you have a life outside of Nova basketball, but the invention of DVR devices should allow you to watch these games in 45 minutes. I think its a worthy investment for you.

Tobias – first of all thank you for taking the time to read the blog. As a member (albeit fading with consistent vigor) of this here blog I am honored that you would take the time to not only read our blog but to comment on it as well.

My only question for you Tobias is, well. . . .

are you going to be auditioning for a part with the Blue Man Group anytime soon?

Lots of people jumping on the bandwagon lately. Andy Katz and Digger Phelps are sitting in a corner crying NOOOOOOOOOO like 4 year olds.

The Georgetown Game – This is Scottie’s last hometown game and he should have a lot of folks from Herndon in the stands. I look for him to show his stuff. The refs better not pull any of the 2-seconds-left fouls. VU should win this one because GU has only 5 players….that’s it! Check their boxscores.

We have never done well at WV and if we win there as well, we are in a league of our own. We all know VU has the talent and coming out of these two games with W s, we then know they really have the right attitude for the tournament.

Chris you do have to remember though that going into the tournament last year there were a number of people who jumped on the bandwagon (especially after seeing our seeding) and that didn’t stop us. . . .
