Game just ended, 2:35 p.m. ET. What is with Villanova games going on so long lately? I want 2 hours of heart trauma, and we’ve been flirting with 3 the last 2 games.

Villanova defeated Georgetown 82-77 for the first time after losing 5 straight to their conference rivals. This one was sloppy to start before the Scottie Reynolds and his back-court mates took over the game and stretched the Villanova lead to 15 at the half. But then, Georgetown woke up and started making every shot they took while ‘Nova went ice cold. Villanova kept them at arm’s length for much of the half before the Hoyas finally tied it up with about 3 minutes to go.

From there it was the Scottie Reynolds show as he made a great driving layup and followed it up with a monster rebound in traffic after Reggie Redding had to launch a desperation 3 as the shot clock wound down. Reynolds finished with 27 points as he continues to stake his case for BIG EAST Player of the Year.

Greg Monroe was unstoppable for the Hoyas, finishing with 29 points and 14 rebounds. He was a handful to say the least, as Isaiah Armwood of all people was really the only one to give him any trouble. Hopefully February 6th is the last time we ever see him, because he is very, very good, and capable of taking over a game as he did today.

Overall, a solid win and the Cats move to 5-0 in the the conference, tied for 1st place with Pittsburgh. The Cats return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to Rutgers to face the lowly Scarlet Knights. I’ll have more on this win later today, but for now, let’s just enjoy it and calm our heart rates down.

Yes, a solid win, but once again we fell in love with the three instead of working the offense for good shots. This let G’ Town back into the game. A win is a win, but would like to see a 40 minute game from this team. Two trap games in Rutgers and St. Johns coming up.

Hey…great blog. Does Rutgers really have to play you? I’m new to the blog world, but you can check me at http://rutgersbasketball.blogspot.com/
I’d love it if you’d add me to your blog list.

Shawn,

I’ll definitely add you to our Blogroll. Good to see someone covering Rutgers basketball. Up for a Q&A before our game Wednesday?

Esteban –

I really think the comeback had a lot to do with Georgetown actually waking up. They’re a solid defensive club and they finally started to play some D. Plus, they were making EVERYTHING at the start of the half.

Monroe is a beast, hopefully he goes to the nba after this year. Also we were ice cold and we had some good lucks in the 2nd half. Congrats Malik, he must have ice water in his veins. Did you see those free throws he sank?

Chris – I don’t disagree, but they stopped running any offense and started shooting NBA range threes with plenty of time on the shot clock. Yes, G’ Town started playing D, but Nova helped them by failing to run the offense.

I’ll meet you halfway, all I’m saying is that in the 2nd half we got the Georgetown we were all expecting, while we started playing like crap. With that combo, it’s really not a shock our lead disappeared.
