No, not the basketball team. The Villanova football team will be hosting the National Semi-Final game vs. William & Mary at Villanova Stadium this Friday night. The game begins at 8:00 p.m. and will be broadcast nationally by ESPN2.

No, I never thought I’d see the day when our football team was on national TV. Now that it has arrived, I’m beyond excited to watch this team continue it’s march towards a National Championship!

…That stadium better be packed with students, alums, and fans in general…this team has been amazing all year and we need to take advantage of the homefield edge and make sure W&M doesn’t have a chance…

Do you think we can ever get back to Division 1 football? Northeastern and Hofstra have shut down their programs. I think we could model ourselves after boston college and make run at it. I think we could steal some recruits from Rutgers, Temple and BC.

login i would LOVE to see us with a major program…. there are two fundamental problems with that happening though (both involving money)

1) Stadium: we need a place to play that is more modern and has a fan friendly atmosphere; especially when it comes to tailgating. At this moment, playing on the Main Line just doesn’t allow that to happen. The tailgating this year is just a sad display at best. The only thing I could possibly see happen is trying to ink some sort of deal with Lincoln Financial Field to host our home games (like Temple does). I still don’t think this is feasible though.

2) Team Facilities: The new gym and student athletic center is centered solely around the basketball team – as it should – and does not solve the growing need for a new weight lifting facility specifically designed for ALL of the sports at Villanova. Currently the old crappy gym within the walls of the stadium serves as the football’s work out facility and is also shared with the rest of the sports on campus.

Both of those problems would have to be solved with copious amounts of money which at this point I don’t see coming into the school. Anything is possible though, and as Chris and I have spoken about this numerous times the Big East has repeatedly asked Villanova to join its conference for Football each of the past few years with which ‘Nova has turned down the offer.

I actually have heard that they were/are considering a stadium in Conshohocken (couple miles away)…I think it would be a good idea to put it right on the water down there. Junction of I-76 and 476 (Blue Route), ample lodging and public transportation nearby.

I think it can happen. I would not be surprised if a few years down the road that the big east conference football teams may opt to split away leaving Nova with the smaller schools. Today that may not seem possible but you never know. Also I think we could make money playing football. Maybe make the folks who have season tickets for basketball should also buy football tickets as well.

Also the Pavilion that building is a joke for our basketball team, sorry but it dosen’t do us justice. I would like to know how many people are on the wait list for basketball tickets. I am sure we could easily sell out a 12 to 15 thousand seat areana.

“No, I never thought I’d see the day when our football team was on national TV”

The Game against William and Mary on October 3 was broadcast on Versus, which I’m pretty sure is carried on cable as nationally as ESPN2 is

I actually talked to the guy who runs the fields, stadium, etc. about a year ago. He said the issue of a bigger stadium/bigger Pavilion is basically brought up everyday, but in the foreseeable future, he said it’s not going to happen for a variety of reasons. The waitlist for basketball tickets is absurd though, as you have to pay a good chunk of change just to be on the waitlist.

Sea of V you are correct. I think I just missed that game because of other things on my schedule.

But ESPN is a lot bigger than a game on Versus.

I love Villanova in FCS football. I love playing for a national championship in the playoffs. I love having the team on campus. It was a GREAT decision by the administration not to go to the Big East. Trust me, the grass is not always greener on the other side.

NN2001 — Sometimes it is though. Look at UConn.

Congratulations Wildcats on your upcoming trip to Chattanooga. I’ve got four tickets together on the ‘Nova side I can’t use now that I’d be happy to let you have at face value (thirty bucks each). Anyone interested?
