Game just ended: 9:04 pm eastern time. Villanova Wildcats defeat Drexel Dragons 77-58. Some notes on the game are below.
-Cats jumped out to 10-0 lead, but it was still a relatively slow start for the home squad. Villanova was cold in the first half, but Drexel couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn.
-Halftime score: Villanova 34 Drexel 18
-Both teams actually made a few shots in the second half, especially Taylor King, who was one of the few brightspots in the first half too
-A big shout out to the entire team for their defensive effort, highlighted by shutting down Drexel superstar Jamie Harris, holding him to zero (yes, that’s correct) points and forcing him to commit 5 turnovers
-Scottie Reynolds, Taylor King, and Antonio Pena really stood out for the Wildcats tonight. Reynolds had 14 points (4-7 from the field, 6-8 from the line), 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. King, off the bench, put up 16 points (6-11 from the field, including 4-6 from downtown) and 5 boards. Pena, who has been very consistent this season, was a force once again, as he had 19 points (4-8 from the field, 11-15 from the line).
-Derrick Thomas and Chris Fouch led the way for the Dragons with 23 and 20 points, respectively
-Not a pretty game, which we have said a lot thus far, but seeing the defense clamp down now is much more important than the offense. The talent is there, and the offense will come, but it is the defense that needs to be there night in and night out. It was certainly there at the Pavilion tonight.
3 days off until a big nonconference game against Maryland down in D.C. Although the Terps have not looked good thus far, they can break out at any time, especially with NBA prospect Greivis Vasquez. Solid win for the Cats against the Dragons, though.

We played a very, very good defensive game tonight. And we don’t even have our best defender yet. I can’t wait for Reggie to get back. The D will really be suffocating then.
