According to an official release from the school, freshman Mouphtaou Yarou has been diagnosed with Hepatitis B. He is currently be treated by the team physician, Dr. Frank Furman.

“We are disappointed for Mouph,” stated Villanova head coach Jay Wright. “We know that he is receiving great care from Dr. Furman and some of the best specialists in this field. Mouph’s health is our foremost concern.”

“We realize it’s very serious,” Villanova coach Jay Wright told the Inquirer. “He’s definitely out of the Drexel game [tomorrow night], but we realize he could be out for the season.”

Get well soon Mouph!

…I realize Jay left the door open for a return this year…but as I understand it, he is probably going to redshirt and return next year…let’s rally around the big guy…

This reminds me of the 2005-06 season when Curtis Sumpter was out for the year during the very beginning of basketball season. Hopefully Pena and Sutton will step up at the 5.

Get well soon Yarou!

What a lousy break for Yarou. Since he needs playing time and most likely won’t be at Nova for 4 yrs – I’m hopeful we’ll see him out there soon (this season).
This is a great opportunity for Sutton to develop

Any word on how he might have caught it? Hopefully there isn’t any issues going on at ‘Nova’s campus that would put others at risk.

OK – so I know this is cynical and I have no basis for this argument but doesn’t the timing of this next to his eligibility questions seem a little suspicious?

Is it possible that the University found some discrepancy and are researching it and using the illness so as not to stir up contraversy?

Maybe I’m just being paranoid, but I’ve seen “injuries” in other sports that were related to other off field issues.

Thoughts?

J92 – Not a chance. If that were the case, they wouldn’t put it out there that the kid has Hep B. They would say he has a “knee issue” or something along those lines.

Hep B is a very serious (although non-life threatening) disease. It would be in TERRIBLE taste to say that a college freshman had it if he in fact did not.
