Mouph gone for the year

It appears that all the smoke surrounding Mouphtaou Yarou has quickly turned into fire. Rumors were abound this morning on campus that the big freshman was out for the year, but many held out hope that it wasn’t true. While we still are waiting an official response from the school, Jeff Goodman of FoxSports has gone on record as saying a source has told him that Yarou is gone for the entire 2009-2010 season due to the viral infection that was first discovered in Puerto Rico.3528627

It is a crushing blow to a team that was already rebuilding its frontcourt. Yarou was in the starting lineup on opening night and was expected to play a big role in his rookie season. Now, the team will look to Maurice Sutton, Isaiah Armwood, Taylor King, and Reggie Redding when he returns for quality minutes alongside Antonio Peña.

As for Mouph, stay strong big man. Things happen in life and they suck when they happen, but you only get stronger from it. Get better soon and keep your head up. Your health is the most important thing here, so get healthy and you’ll be back in no time.

what a blow…i think we will still be very good and i am still confident we can win the Big East…but a national championship or final four appearance becomes much much more difficult.

we need reggie back.

Is it possible for him to get another year of eligibility because he played so little?

yeah under NCAA rules he’ll have to file a petition. I think it’s typically less than 10 or 15% of the year and they’ll grant a medical redshirt.

He’ll absolutely get a medical redshirt. Question is will he even be around long enough to grant a 5th year?

Many had him pegged as a one-and-done (which obviously isn’t going to happen) but he does have an NBA-type ceiling.

from what i saw in the few games he did play, he will need a lot of work, so i would guess he would be at nova for at least 3 years

Brian if he doesnt go to the nba he will get 4 more years from the ncaa via medical redshirt if granted by the ncaa

i’d be shocked if he doesn’t get to redshirt. and i agree with brian…i really don’t see him being a one-and-done. in the two games he played, he really didnt impress me (granted, perhaps he wasn’t at 100%). seems a bit too raw to leave so early. he’ll definitely be around for 2 more years, maybe 3 (not including this year)

I want to respect Mouph’s privacy, but what kind of “virus” keeps you out of basketball for a year? On Mouph and the NBA, he’s at least a two year guy (not including this year). Maybe even three. With these medical concerns and the age rumors, it’s definitely going to have NBA GMs thinking twice, unless he was the next Kevin Garnett. In which case, we’ll get our first championship next year since 1985.
