It’s BIG EAST Media Day (I’m so pumped that the season is almost here) and this is the time when coaches get together and vote on the various pre-season lists.

Villanova was picked to finish 1st in the conference this year, narrowly edging out West Virginia, who finished just 3 points behind them in voting.  UConn and Louisville round out the Top 4. Villanova was last picked 1st in 2005-2006.

Scottie Reynolds was selected as a 1st-Team All-BIG EAST member, but he was the only Wildcat to garner such honors. Luke Harangody was picked as the Player of the Year (no problem there, he’ll have the stats but not the team) and Lance Stephenson was picked as the freshman of the year.

…Good for the team, now you’ve just got to go out and actually earn it…congrats to Scottie as well who I feel has never gotten the respect he deserves with these types of things…

…A little shocked Redding didn’t make the 2nd-team or Honorable Mention…he may be out for the fall semester but he’ll be back for the conference slate…I’d be shocked if he wasn’t on one of those teams at the end of the year…

Be prepared to be shocked Chris. Redding is a role player and will not get any awards at end of the year. His role is vital to the team but I wouldn’t expect him to be honored on any of the postseason teams. Fisher and Stokes will get all the pub (besides Scottie) and likey get any additional post season accolades.

We’ll see… :)

To be honest, I am a bit surprised Corey Fisher is not getting a little more press. He is a guy who clearly took a huge step forward last year, won the 6th man of the year award and played for the US over the summer. He is in a position to have a great year and potentially get drafted in the first round (in my mind). Maybe I am overlooking something here.

Totally agree Mike. Usually when you win the 6th man award, you’ve raised your awareness. That doesn’t seem to be the case.

No problem with Deonta Vaughn on the 1st team, but I’m mildly surprised that he wasn’t selected over Dominique Jones of USF.

In any case, there’s no doubt that EVERY coach knows about him and the terror we will create, which is all that really matters.

With a good year he too will find himself on one of these lists.

Lance Stephenson? Word?

Dude is a virtual lock for not getting out of his freshman year without a scandal.

Who, Mr. Born Ready? If so I agree, he’s a punk. Can’t knock his talent but I’m not sure he’s all there between the ears.
