Recruiting: Wait-and-see for Sterling Gibbs

Jeff Borzello of the NBE Basketball Report brings us the latest update on 2011 prospect Sterling Gibbs and it appears that Villanova is continuing to fade with the guard. Gibbs is taking a wait-and-see approach when it comes to Villanova, citing he needs to see what they do in 2010 if they are to remain an option.sterling gibbs portrait

Villanova is in the mix,” he said. “I am looking to see what they end up doing as far as the 2010 class. Right now I don’t have any favorites,” he added. “All of the schools are equal right now.”

This shouldn’t come as any shock considering Jay Wright and his staff have stepped up their efforts to woo 2010 combo guard Cory Joseph. While that may not work out for ‘Nova in the end, it’s a safe bet to say the ship has probably sailed with Gibbs.

…To me, Gibbs is probably the guy who goes to Seton Hall or Pittsburgh and ends up killing us for 4 years…

He will probably go where his brother went. Jai is smart not to waste his time.

I don’t think he was ‘wasting his time.’ Gibbs is a very good player, and somebody who we probably would have been thrilled to have just a few years ago. And he even named us his outright leader, but I don’t think we were ready to accept any commitments.

I just think we’re involved with much bigger fish right now with Cory Joseph in 2010 and then Tony Wroten, Mike Gilchrist and Roc Christmas in 2011.

Those are all consensus Top 10 players.

Agreed and Gilchrist would be a huge win for us. I think they are also looking at Myles Davis at St. Peter’s Prep as well.

I want Joseph bad. The guy was overshadowed by Avery Bradley last year at Findlay Prep but he can flat out score the rock. I think we should move off of Gihlcrist, he’s a lock for Calipari at KU. Rakeem Christmas. Who was the last local big they got that was of any caliber. Don’t give me Bigus. Dude was awful. I’m thinking Tim Thomas. I’m sure Waayans can help get him in the fold

Pat –

We’re still in the thick of it for Gilchrist. Make no mistake about it. Same goes for Roc Christmas.

I wouldn’t give up on either of them.
