Top JUCO transfer Jarrid Famous, who had some interest in Villanova, has committed to South Florida according to ZagsBlog. The 6′11″ big man from Westchester Community College had  just taken a weekend trip out to Arizona, and many thought that both Arizona and Missouri were the front-runners for his services.

Famous has family near the South Florida campus, which may have played a part in the decision. Famous is expected to officially announce his choice Wednesday night.

…Well, Stan Heath is certainly amassing some talent down in Florida…they are definitely a program on the rise…the Big East will be down next year, and Famous gives them another legitimate big man to pair with Gus GilchristDominique Jones is an up and comer in the conference as well…

…Am I crazy to think that South Florida could be dancing next year?…

There is no doubt that USF will be dancing next year! We have the players finally and the coach that can take us to the promised land. We should contend for the title now that we have Famous.

Contend for what title? I assume you mean the Big East and not the NCAA?

And if you mean the Big East, I’d slow down on that. Call me biased, but I think Villanova and West Virginia are going to be the best teams next year, but even though teams like Louisville, UConn and Syracuse lose some stars, they’ll still be pretty good.

I think USF can definitely make the dance, but to think they’ll contend for the Big East title is a little premature.

Honestly, the NIT would be a huge step forward for our program next year. The following year (when Jones and Famous would be Seniors and Gilchrist and Crater would be Juniors) is when I think the NCAA tourney could be a realistic objective.

If you mean the NIT title, I’d say maybe. NCAA or even Big East? No, and it’s not even close. However, I think they could definitely make noise next season in a down year for the Big East.

Is there any chance of Jones pulling a Dar Tucker and bolting early?

If by dancing, you mean making the NIT. As one of the biggest Bulls fans out there, I’d be ecstatic if we can make it to the NIT. For a long time, we’ve treaded water or slid backwards, so I’m looking for forward momentum. Jones is one of the 10 best players in the league, Gilchrist has a lot of potential (he hadn’t played in 2 years before last year, so I think he’ll improve), and Famous should the big man we need down low. We have a PG transferring in from Ohio State who will add quickness and penetration ability, and Stan has signed three sharpshooters. If two of those guys can play right away, USF could very well finish in the top 11 of the Big East and make the NIT. That would be really nice progress and make a foundation for Jones’ senior year (Famous’ as well).

I am talking NCAA Champion. Big East champ seems almost like destiny. Don’t you realize how loaded we are. I guess I will keep quiet so that everyone doesn’t find out how good we really are, so we can sneak up on them.

Good to see the USF fans. Definitely think you guys are the sleeper team to watch next year with the addition of Famous.

Is there a good USF blog you guys hang out at?

that’s the most active one with at least 2 or 3 updates a day, it was a shame to see flynn enter the draft they would’ve been preseason top 5 at least next year and there wouldn’t be any talk of the BE being down. famous is good but he doesn’t walk on water and we don’t have much depth behind him. we have an outside shot at the tourney but more realistically we should strive to make the NIT and get 8-9 conference wins.
