Is Scottie leaving?

At least one Villanova blog thinks he is. Fact on Villanova Sports is reporting that Reynolds will be leaving school to enter the NBA Draft. The blogger, who goes by the handle Matsuflex, says that a “reliable source” of his has told him that Scottie will be entering the draft and not returning to school.

I’ve seen Reynolds listed anywhere from a late 1st round pick to undrafted, so this “news” doesn’t seem right. First of all, a red flag should be waived anytime a person says they have a “reliable source.” This isn’t a pay site like Rivals or Scout, where sources are usually credible. This is a blog run by a kid on campus (which is really no different from us).

Also, his reluctance in the comments to back up his claims (he goes on to say it is just speculation) tells us that this isn’t a fact, but a rumor. Even Blue Man! doubts the info, and he contributes to that blog. As he points out, if news this big were really true, it would have leaked out in several other places before a blog.

I hate to even post this, because it sounds like a stupid rumor that some kid heard and are running with it. If he’s right, he can brag about it. And if he’s wrong and Scottie stays, that’s great news. But it is getting some talk in the Villanova world, hence the post.

If this does turn out to have some truth to it, my guess is that Reynolds will enter his name in the draft, and not hire an agent. He’ll simply be testing the waters, trying to get a feel for what his stock is. And honestly, more power to him. He has every right to do that and he should do that. But my guess is that we’ll see Scottie in uniform for one last year come next season.

Really, it’s just irresponsible, and simply the next bullet point on the list of why blogs can suck.

Not a fan of that blog. And I agree with you – very irresponsible and immature to post something like that, and as soon as people naturally question you to run and hide and basically say “don’t blame me if this doesn’t turn out to be true.”

Oh well, we’ll see what happens. My guess is it’s BS.

points of douchebaggery found in this post:

1 – omg a source.!!!111.?1! who could it be? did he make it up? let’s be skeptics because it makes us feel better. cast doubt about that site now and then.
2 – omg blueman doesn’t believe him!! wow, he is on the same staff and isn’t spewing out the same worthless boring information as him. it can’t be true, plus he wears a costume. zomg!
3 – if it isn’t a pay site you know the information can’t be trusted. always true. remember that when you come to mensearching4menibb&w.
4 – he said the word speculation. must mean it is, without a doubt, unequivocally, just mere speculation! (but if it is from a close source to the Villanova basketball family doesn’t that speculation amount to more than your speculation that matsuflex is lying and that scottie won’t go?)
5 – that blog is student run! almost like us! can’t be trusted. i mean what credence can be given to college students knowledgeable enough to get in the competitive university i call my own probably after the competitiveness skyrocketed compared to when i was admitted!!!(whatever that means. probably that you are a lame ass fan who cannot tolerate comedy or criticisms directed at your beloved cats because it would rock your foundation as you have no real sports background until you went to a school with a good bball program.)

chris tell me how my ass tastes.

also, can’t wait for the first response to this saying this post is a testament to the immaturity that can be found at novafacts.blogspot.com. what’s really immature is how much it sounds like chris is getting off in his post to this sense of self-accomplishment for his blog and the superiority he is trying to impose in the situation. if that’s the kind of thing you are into readers than look no further than ibbw–where the news is old and nobody could give a shit about but that won’t stop them from being holier than thou. otherwise, if you don’t need a million new posts a day that provide little substance and would rather get you lack of substance by a few posts every now and then, a couple of dick jokes, some off topic, some humorous pieces, and a real pulse on villanova basketball come see me at novafacts.blogspot.com.

While immaturity would be a fine way to describe you, I think insecurity is probably the better choice.

If you like your blog and are happy with it, then good for you. That should be all that matters.

If you don’t like it here, then don’t read. Simple as that.

A word of advice though: You need to learn how to handle people questioning your information. Because judging by the comments in your post, the IBBW guys are the only ones.

And this is my thesis on how and why “The Voice”/the rest of Novafacts do not understand the word “speculation.”

To speculate, in layman’s terms, means to talk out of one’s ass. No facts, no reporting, no evidence. Strictly what comes off the top of your pointed little head. Citing a source, no matter how unreliable, means that you’re willing to stand by the things that you say. Citing an “insider source” on the other hand, serves to suggest that the information is especially valid, as it is not in the realm of common knowledge.

If you wanted to start a discussion on the possibility of Reynolds leaving, that would be speculation. But to report it, with an “insider source,” and then distance yourself from the ramifications by claiming “ohhhh it’s just speculation!! Relaaaax” is simply fraudulent and gives blogs a bad name.

To call your post immature would be to insult the meaning of the word. If you were immature, at some point, you would grow beyond it. It’s only natural.

No, your post was not immature. It’s just stupid.
