The 2009 O’Reilly Auto Parts Puerto Rico Tip-Off (quite possibly the longest tournament name ever) has announced 7 of the 8 teams that will be in the field next year. Villanova was announced as one of the teams. The others are:

  • UAB
  • Dayton
  • George Mason
  • Georgia Tech
  • Indiana
  • Kansas State

These pre-season tournaments are pretty meaningless, but it is a good chance to get some solid OOC wins. I know most of you will look at that list and think that we are the runaway favorite, but think again.

We’re losing the best senior class ever after this season, and we’re bringing in 4 freshman to replace them. That can get ugly at times. UAB, Dayton and George Mason are all solid mid-major programs, and Georgia Tech is going to be vastly improved next year. Bank on that.

The tournament takes place November 19-22.

…Vacation anyone?…

it’s funny in all the hubbub going on right now i wondered what the team will look like next year. is it me or are we ridiculously guard-heavy (more so than usual) next year? Pena is going to have to really step up, and Yarou will have to play right away.

Meanwhile assuming Reynolds comes back, how are there going to be enough minutes for everyone?

“Meanwhile assuming Reynolds comes back, how are there going to be enough minutes for everyone?”

King plays a lot at the 4 (yes, yes, I know he isn’t a natural 4, but Clark really wasn’t either, and given the makeup of the team …), Wayns sits, mainly, and Armwood redshirts.

It’s still going to be tight.

Doubt many of us younger guys will go but I’d be shocked if a lot of older alums didn’t take the chance to fly down to Puerto Rico and catch some basketball..
