Christopher Lawlor of ESPN has a feature on Maalik Wayns (among others) and his selection to the McDonald’s All-American Game. Wayns is one of 24 players, including Villanova commit Dom Cheek, to be selected to the game. 17 of the top 20 players in the ESPNU Top 100 were selected, which makes it quite the exclusive crowd.
Wayns is excited to play in the game, noting that he and many of the players are close friends, which will make it an enjoyable experience.
“We’re all friends, it’ll be a fun week,” Wayns said. “When we step on the court we’re representing the East Team and you want to go out [of high school] on a winning note. Every kid plays for a chance at the McDonald’s Game.”
According to his coach, Wayns is “super excited” for the game and the selection was a “huge deal.” Wayns is currently out with a torn meniscus, but expects to be back for the opening round of the state playoffs, if not sooner.
